Why Snoop Dogg uses motion capture

Not long ago, we made a very special discovery: rapper Snoop Dogg fully equipped with a Vicon and Faceware 3D motion capture system. Why did Snoop Dogg need this equipment, and what other special applications are there for 3D motion capture systems? Read on to find out.

Gaming and Entertainment

In entertainment and virtual productions (VFX), Vicon is the brand when it comes to motion capturing. Disney, DreamWorks, and EA are just a few examples of major production studios that use motion capture systems. Productions with Vicon often win Emmy awards. One of the latest successful projects is Star Wars’ The Mandalorian.

With the 3D motion capture cameras and software, it is possible to create lifelike virtual creations. This is exactly what Snoop Dogg took advantage of. For his new music video ‘Crip Ya Enthusiasm,’ Snoop Dogg used Faceware and Vicon software. By using both systems, his body movements and facial expressions were captured very accurately. The result is an impressively realistic music video.

Life Sciences

In the life sciences, Vicon is the gold standard for gait labs. The most renowned rehabilitation centers, hospitals, universities, colleges, and sports clubs in the Benelux use state-of-the-art 3D motion capture technology.

From football to tennis and from weightlifting to athletics: Vicon’s 3D technology is ideal for motion analysis in sports. Athletes’ movements are analyzed to improve sports performance or to map the rehabilitation process of sports injuries.

Due to the highly precise and accurate Vicon Nexus software for motion analysis, this software is also used for gait analysis in rehabilitation and scientific research.

Virtual Reality

Origin is a product of Vicon, specifically built for Location-Based Virtual Reality. Here, a person or object is often tracked in real-time and integrated into a VR environment, such as a game or video. Recently, the system made news in America with the new NY Harry Potter experience. In the Netherlands, ProCare has also provided Vicon Virtual Reality installations for multiple VR Arcade locations, where Virtual Reality is used for lifelike games. Additionally, the worlds of Life Science and Virtual Reality are increasingly overlapping, as VR is becoming more popular in healthcare as well.

Engineering

Did you know that the technical industry also uses Vicon tracking systems? Boeing, Airbus, Ford, BMW, and NASA are some examples. Moving objects such as robots, drones, or tools are tracked, for instance, to research how production processes can be optimized.
